Crocs, 2025

from £75.00

Graphite print on Hahnemühle 200g Acid-free matte photo paper

Everyone in my circle knows I live in crocs. I was gifted my first pair for my 17th birthday by my sister. In November 2023 I bought my best friend a pair of black platform crocs. At the time it was a bit of a joke- we’d always been polar opposites: Eisha, always well dressed and usually in stilettos (to boost her 4’10 frame a few  inches higher)- we knew shed never be seen dead in crocs. But as it turned out, owning a pair herself prompted an obsession with their comfort. They soon became a symbol of our friendship and the impact I’d had on her sartorial choices. When I announced that in September 2025 I, her best (and only, lol) friend would be emigrating from London to the other side of the world, it slowly dawned on her that she would miss me greatly. So in July I set about drawing her a parting gift: Crocs. Being the first piece of art she'd ever owned, I wanted it to be ridiculously big. So big that it would be an unavoidable conversation starter in whatever countryside mansion she will inevitably abide in. I secretly toiled over it for 6 weeks in the basement of our Oval apartment building. Safe to say she was pretty shocked when I revealed it to her, and now, despite how possessive she is of her drawing, she has allowed me to exhibit it in Sri Lanka and Mexico. After many international flights in big tubes, it now resides safely with her. As far as I know, the first ever A0 hyperrealistic drawing of Crocs; a symbol of our friendship and the simple value of comfort, free of embarrassment. We were recently turned away by a club whilst on the prowl in Mexico City on a Friday night becasue we were wearing our crocs. Mine now have holes in the bottom but I refuse to replace them unless sponsored by the brand.
